Happy 1st birthday sweetheart! Wow.
As I sit here searching for just the right words to tell you on this special day…it is like the floodgates of emotions have opened! It seems like only yesterday that I was waiting on the Lord for us to have a baby, and it feels like I just walked out of the doctor’s office when Daddy and I saw you and heard your heart beat the first time. And now here I am in the same wonder as a year ago, and I am watching you grow up quicker than I imagined. I know I have said this before but I feel incredibly humbled that God choose us to be your Mommy and Daddy. We waited a long time for you sweet girl…but you were worth every second of that wait.
A year ago tonight I paced around the house long after Daddy and Nonnie (who was in town waiting to meet you too) went to bed…I was too excited to sleep between the contractions! I remember sitting here wondering what you would look like and be like. You came a week past your due date so I was REALLY ready to meet you! I remember my first words after seeing your sweet face “Oh, she’s really cute. She really is an ‘Ella’” Sounds silly now but I still remember how looking into those eyes for the first time took my breath away!
Now sitting here a year later I could not have imagined how wonderful this past year would be. It is an incredible thing to watch your baby grow. One of God’s greatest blessing!
You have really transitioned out of the baby stage and into the toddler stage. You are continuing to change so much. So here are fun facts about you this month!
You are really funny! You are always cracking up...or making us crack up! You have quite a smile and you know how to use it!!
Speaking of smiles….there are a few new additions to your smile! You got a bunch of teeth this month. You got another one to go along with the two bottom front teeth you already had (your left) and two top teeth…there is also another one trying to peek through those gums.
You are eating mostly everything except citrus and nuts. You are starting to have an opinion about what you like and don’t like to eat. You think you are sooo sneaky but I see you dropping your broccoli on the floor! You are still a pretty good eater though! You LOVE fish and will often pick around the other food on your tray and pick out all the fish to eat it first. You love blueberries. Thankfully, we stocked up over the summer and froze some so we can have New Jersey blueberries year round. You eat almost all finger foods and when something requires a spoon…you normally are the one controlling it! Needless to say mealtimes are kind of messy these days.
You are wearing mostly 9-12 month clothes and size 3 diapers. You are still wearing lots of cloth diapers while we are home. You love wearing socks just so you can pull them off and carry them around. Your poor toes must be getting pretty cold!! You also learned to take your pants off all by yourself. I walked in to get you up from a nap one day and you were throwing them up in the air! Silly girl! My favorite new addition to your wardrobe is your clip-in bows! You finally have long and thick enough hair to put a small bow in it. It is so cute!
You started sleeping in a bit these days…(Thank you). You now go to bed around 6:30-7 and sleep till 7 in the morning. You normally take 1-2 naps a day. You have become quite attached to your “sleepy bear”.
You are walking so good now. No more crawling at all! You are so quick. You have been loving pulling the pillows off the couch and walking around with them and them using them to pad your falls! You still get your share of bumps and bruises but I guess that come with the “big girl” territory! If I ask you where Mama is – you pat me if I am holding you! Melts my heart! After laying you down in bed we always use the sign for “I love you”. You have recently started reaching up and grabbing my hand is if to say I love you too! What a special mommy moment! So sweet!
This month went by so quickly! It was filled with lots of traveling. We went down to Maryland to see Aunt Jenny, Uncle Keith, and Madison at the beginning of the month. You and Mommy went down to Florida for a last minute quick weekend away while Daddy was away for work. It was your first trip to Nonnie and Grandpa’s house. You loved it there. You loved walking around and exploring. It was such a nice trip! You even got to meet Mommy’s best friend and her two sweet boys!
Well, we have lots planned to help celebrate your birthday. Tomorrow we are going to go to the Philadelphia Please Touch Children Museum, Saturday we are going to the pumpkin patch, and then on the 29th we are celebrating with all your family and friends at your safari party! That is quite a 1st birthday celebration!! What a great way to celebrate our first year as a family! What great memories!
Happy Birthday Ella Grace! Daddy and I love you and thank God for this past year! You have brightened our lives and we will forever changed! We look to the next year with great anticipation as we continue to watch you grow!
We love you!!
Mommy and Daddy
